Cindy Pridgen-Blog 3 Share!

Share your reading Life. Sharing with students about ourselves as readers is important to help develop a love for reading. We need to be good role models. Children need to see our excitement about books, hear about our reading life and see us in action as a reader. If we share with students why reading is important to us, where we go to check out/buy books, how we learn to try different genres/authors, and record what we have read, many students will follow suit. I like to read books stud era read and participate in book talks and book sharing. I then get to model on their level many skills while getting them excited about the book/author. Books need to be everywhere in the classroom. Students will see that books are important. I am proud of WHES teachers. They have spent hours creating and orphaning their classroom libraries. You can see books and reading is important. Students see this also. Thank you teachers!!  Keep reading aloud to students daily. 5-10 mins gets them hooked on a book, model strategies, and teach them how to make meaning of text.

  2. Our students look up to us. When they see that we enjoy reading they want to do it as well so we need to read with a voice during our read out louds and shared reading time. It is important to allow our students to develop emotions (happy, empathic, even joy) when we read to them.
